# Default User Settings

The settings that are applied by default to new user accounts are set via the "Default User Settings" screen in GAP Admin.

The settings described below apply to new users only.  Changing these settings does not impact existing users.

## Configuring Default User Settings

1. From the GAP Admin home page, click "Default User Settings" under the "Access Control" section.
2. Select the tenant whose default settings you wish to configure via the "Change Tenant" button.
3. Set the display language via the "Language" drop-down list.
4. Set the time zone via the "Time zone" drop-down list.
5. Set the date and time format via the "Date & time format" drop-down list.
6. Set the position format via the "Position format" drop-down list.
7. Configure how alert notifications are displayed in the GAP Portal using the "On screen alerts" radio buttons.
8. If you want a sound to be played when an alert is shown in the GAP Portal, check the "Play alert sound" and select the sound from the "Alert sound type" drop-down list.
9. Click the "Save Changes" button.
