# Managing Public Maps

Public maps allow the current location and track of a group of devices to be made available in the form of an embeddable map (or link to a map) that do not require a login.

It is possible to configure a public map to show position report histories based on the following criteria:

* Last X Messages (shows a certain number of messages)
* Last X Days (shows messages from a certain number of days ago)
* From Date (from a specific date)
* Between Two Dates

## Enabling Public Maps

1. From the GAP Admin home screen, click either "Groups" (under the "Devices" section) or "Collections" (under the "Access Control" section) depending on whether you want to base your map on a group or a collection respectively.
2. Click on an existing group / collection.
3. Click "Create Public Map".
4. Click "Create Public Map" at the prompt dialog.
5. Select the base map from the "Base map" drop-down list.  To allow the viewer of the map to change the base map, toggle the "Show base map picker" option to on.
6. To show a label for devices, toggle the "Show label for each device" option to on.
7. To show points of interest on the map, toggle the "Show Points of Interest" option to on.
8. Select the criteria for the position reports to show on the map using the "Location history" options.  To show the current position only, select "No History".  To show only the *n* messages, enter a number in the "Last messages" text box.  To show messages from the last *n* days, enter a number in the "Last days" text box.  To show messages between certain dates, select your chosen dates form the "From" and "until" date pickers.
9. Type a title for the map in the "Map title" text box.
10. Select a time zone from the "Time zone" drop-down list.
11. To enable automatic refresh, toggle the "Auto-refresh every minute" option to on.
12. Copy the map link and / or the embed code using the "Copy Link" and "Copy Embed Code" buttons.
13. Click the "X" button.

## Editing Public Maps

1. From the GAP Admin home screen, click either "Groups" (under the "Devices" section) or "Collections" (under the "Access Control" section) depending on whether you want to base your map on a group or a collection respectively.
2. Click on an existing group / collection.
3. Click "Configure" next to the public map copy buttons.
4. Set your desired options as described in [#enabling-public-maps](#enabling-public-maps "mention") steps 5 - 11.
5. Click the "X" button.

## Deleting Public Maps

1. From the GAP Admin home screen, click either "Groups" (under the "Devices" section) or "Collections" (under the "Access Control" section) depending on whether you want to base your map on a group or a collection respectively.
2. Click on an existing group / collection.
3. Click on the group / collection.
4. Click "Delete" next to the public map copy buttons.
5. Click the "Delete Public Map" button at the confirmation dialog.
